Dr.-Ing. Werner Bösemann says words of welcome at the PTB Braunschweig/Germany

7 February 2012 - A reference wall for the testing of laser trackers has been set up at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt Braunschweig/Germany. For the first time worldwide, users are able to test the metrological performance of their tracker after standardized procedure (VDI/VDE 2617 page 10) and independent from the manufacturer. In December 2011 the new reference wall was inaugurated. Dr.-Ing. Werner Bösemann, one of the Managing Directors of AICON 3D Systems GmbH, was invited to say the words of welcome from the industrial side at the opening ceremony.

AICON distributes Leica laser tracker for testing bigger parts regarding measure, shape and position. The laser tracker is a mobile 3D coordinate measurement system, which is used for testing in many industrial areas (engineering, automobile manufacture, air and space flight). Because of the fact that an instrumental measurement inaccuracy of the system depends on a number of treats, a statement to the measurement inaccuracy on the basis of the single deviation is hardly possible. However an easy method for testing the accuracy exists in the measurement of calibrated reference body – with just such a reference wall like the one at PTB.

The highly accurate reference wall with up to 12 m long testing length for laser trackers was built for that purpose. The testing lengths were realized with temperature stable measure embodiment made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFK) and are mounted strainless to the wall.

Also other operators of laser trackers should use the reference wall at the PTB Braunschweig to test the metrological performance of their systems similar to the industrial ambient conditions.
